PACKAGED ITINERARY
Day 1 Arrival
We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.
Day 2 Concarneau Driver’s Day Off
Today we remain in Concarneau. We can choose to take the land train into town or simply wander along the beach to the beautiful walled town that sits on a long island in the centre of the harbour. Why not enjoy the small road train that travels 3 times a day between the beach next to the hotel and the walled town.
Day 3 Odet River Cruise, Quimper & Locronan
This morning, we make our way to the seaside resort of Bénodet, where we embark on a circular river cruise lasting just over 2 hours along the beautiful Odet River, described as “the most beautiful river in France” by Winston Churchill! Our journey takes us past wooded landscapes, numerous castles, manor houses and forgotten creeks, while the guided commentary tells us all about the attractions along the way (cruises available from April to September). After our cruise, we make our way to Quimper, the cultural heart of Brittany. The city’s crowning glory is its gothic town, where we have free time for lunch before making our way to the stunning village of Locronan. This exquisite village is named after a revered Irishman who settled here in the Dark Ages, but its legacy stems from its later trade as a centre for sail-making.
Day 4 Vannes & Pont-Aven
This morning, we visit Vannes, one of Brittany’s most important and picturesque towns. With its charming half-timbered houses, Vannes dates from the 16th century and its old town is a pleasure to explore, with something new to admire around every corner. Why not finish the morning down by the harbour and enjoy a relaxing drink whilst admiring the sea views of the Gulf of Morbihan? In the afternoon we visit the pretty ‘village of artists’ and historical port town of Pont-Aven. Historic watermills along the banks of the River Aven provide a scenic backdrop to the town that is also famous as an artists’ retreat and for the invention in 1920 of galettes (butter biscuits).
Day 5 Departure
After breakfast, we begin our journey home.
